Shark shot goes viral
A SHARK sighting at Shingley Beach last week caused quite a stir, with a picture captured by eight-year-old Sienna Punch going viral on local social media.
Sienna, who was at Shingley Beach on Sunday for outrigger training, explained what happened.
“We were just packing up the canoe,” she said.
“I was on the phone and then I saw a shark and I ran down and took a photo.
“It kept going down over to that boat ramp.”
Sienna’s mum, Donna, said her eldest daughter had also had a run-in with the shark.
“They were getting the sixman out, the big outrigger, and then it swam around the six-man so they all had to get out of the water,” she said.
“Tyler, my eldest daughter, she’s in the six-man and I’m down here with the twins and I was like ‘Tyler! Shark’s coming towards you darling, get out of the water!’.”
Tyler said she thought it was only a small shark.
“So I wasn’t really scared,” she said.
With the photo shared numerous times across social media and many speculating about the species of shark, Ms Punch said they were overwhelmed by the response.
“We can’t believe how viral the photo’s gone,” she said.
Ms Punch’s neighbour even got a call from the UK. “They had visitors from England come over a couple of weeks ago and they couldn’t believe we had seen a shark at Shingley,” she said.
