LAWN BOWLS: Proser­pine La

dies Bowl­ing Club: On Tues­day the ladies’ team se­lected for the Sy­mons Shield trav­elled to North­ern Beaches to play against North­ern Beaches.

June Blair, Joan McGrath and Heather Brown were de­feated 20–24 by Dianne Soanes’s team.

Heather Pat­ullo, Dot Hin­schen and He­len Muller de­feated Sue Hunter’s team 25–23.

Wendy Pomeroy, Lois Read and Ma­ree Daf­fara were de­feated 15–23 by Deb­bie Den­nis’s team.

North­ern Beaches went on to win the shield with the fi­nal be­ing played be­tween North­ern Beaches and Seaforth.

On Wed­nes­day, the bowlers were lucky to avoid ma­jor rain events and three com­pe­ti­tion games were played.

In club cham­pi­onship pairs, June Blair and Heather Brown de­feated Amy Hart and Heather Pat­ullo 32–14.

In club cham­pi­onship sin­gles, He­len Muller de­feated Vicki Spann 25–18 and Jo Peasley de­feated Fran Porter 25–16.

In so­cial play Cathy Holmes and Gail Camm de­feated Mary Hedge­long and Dot Hin­schen 20–14.

Proser­pine Bowls Club: On Satur­day af­ter­noon Divi­sion 1 played Pen­nants at Proser­pine against Souths Sub­ur­ban.

John Hen­der­son, Jonathan Bye, Michael Kin­n­ear and Barry Saroglia tied 21–all with P Balder­son’s team; Nathan Dodds, Jim Quod, Gavin Milne and Shane Spann went down 18–22 to Peter Black­burn’s team; Sandy Daf­fara, Shane May, Scott Hamil­ton and Gra­hame Kin­n­ear went down 11–28 to Ray Kurtz’s team.

This gave Sub­ur­ban two match points and 2½ rinks wins plus 21 and Proser­pine zero match points, ½ rink win mi­nus 21.

Divi­sion 4 was de­feated by Sa­rina but scores were un­avail­able at the time of writ­ing this re­port.

In the club cham­pi­onship sin­gles played on the Satur­day morn­ing, Barry Saroglia de­feated Scott Hamil­ton 27–13.

On Sun­day morn­ing Ted Cullen de­feated Allan Per­shouse (score un­avail­able).

Sun­day, April 24, is when Proser­pine Bowls Club will hold its An­zac Day bowls. Play from 1.30pm.
