Ladies brave big downpour

PROSERPINE GOLF: With the final rains of the wet coming last week, the only competition to complete before the course was closed was last Wednesday’s Padgett ladies’ day.

Twenty-two ladies took to the green, but only five hardy individuals soldiered on to complete the course after rain washed things out for the rest.

The winner on the day was Ann Gardel, who blitzed the field with a net 77, well ahead of runner-up Viv Demartini on 81.

The rest of the rundown comprised of Jo-Ann Muller (89), Faye Elder (92) and Pauline Redpath (94).

Nearest the pins went to JoAnn Muller on number four, Di Dobbins (six), Lyn Muller (11) and Tina Badenhorst (13).

Viv Demartini took out the least putts with 31.

If the course re-opens, the ladies will have played an American foursomes event sponsored by the Reef Gateway Hotel on Wednesday, while Saturday’s event will be a single stroke, as will Thursday’s competition.
