Peter out­foxes in a dou­ble win

GOLF: The big win­ner of the Air­lie Beach Ho­tel June monthly medal was Peter Fox, who scooped the pool in a great field of 85 play­ers with a score of net 67, which had him also take out the B-grade ti­tle, beat­ing Mark Thomp­son with a 68.

The A-grade ti­tle went to Chris Doblo, who beat Jake Nurse on count­back with 71 each, while C-grade went to Benn Ryan (68), who beat Al­bert Pini on 70.

On Thurs­day, 49 play­ers turned out for a Ver­sus Par event with the Div 1 win­ner Barry Mor­timer (+3), beat­ing run­ner-up Paul Joice (+2), while Div 2 went to Vic Feldman (+2), beat­ing Benn Ryan with a +1.

Perri Simp­son won the 9hole com­pe­ti­tion with a great score of +4, beat­ing Ron Thynne (+3).

This Satur­day is the qualifier for Men’s Hand­i­cap Match­play, with the top 32 play­ers go­ing into this cham­pi­onship event. It is a sin­gle stroke event with an early start and then a shot­gun start at 11.30am.

Thurs­day play­ers will be com­pet­ing in a sin­gle sta­ble­ford event in two di­vi­sions over 18 holes and a 9-hole event.

In ladies golf Tr­ish McNeill was the big win­ner in Satur­day’s Se­lena Clancy Beauty monthly medal for June, com­ing in with a net 72 to beat run­ner-up Jac­qui Wall by one stroke on 73.

Wed­nes­day’s McNeill Building monthly medal was won by Toni Clauss, who creamed the field with her net 71, ahead of run­ner-up Paula Wron­ski (75), with Anna Win­ter­bourn (76), Wendy Bradley (77), and Mar­lene Gray and Mandy Pat­ter­son com­ing in with 78.

DAWN BUSTERS

Sun­day had an­other good roll-up to dawnies good to see our New Zealand, with a cold morn­ing on the back nine see­ing Beryl Nos­wor­thy take the win­ner with a 59/39 and Tom Flem­ing run­ner-up with a 46/ 42 af­ter a chip off with Ge­orge Steven­son.

Also on a 42 net score, near­est the pin on 13 was Tony Spur­way and on 16 Neil Hansen and Larry Muller both with birdies. The snake put­ter was Mark Co­hen with least num­ber of putts Larry Muller with 11 and Travis Clinch col­lected the brad­mans with 58/ 58. Tony’s lucky net score was split four ways be­tween Jill Ford, Vic Feldman, Clay Coles and Mick Bur­rows.

VET­ER­ANS

The Vet­er­ans com­pe­ti­tion fea­tured an­other strong turn out with Beryl Miller tak­ing the nine hole com­pe­ti­tion on 23.

Al­bert Pini wasn’t far be­hind on 20 with Alan Scott in the run down with 19.

Pins went to Ross Meade in the men and Mandy Pat­ter­son in the ladies.

Al­bert Pini avenged his sec­ond place with a win in the 18-hole com­pe­ti­tion with a 38.

He was closely fol­lowed by Ross Meade on 37 and Beryl Miller on 36.

Com­pe­ti­tion re­sumes in Proser­pine next week.
