Pen­nants prove strong point

BOWLS: On Satur­day, the Proser­pine Bowls Club Di­vi­sion 1 Pen­nants trav­elled to Souths Sub­ur­ban to play round 7 of their Pen­nants.

Nathan Dodds, Jim Quod, Gavin Milne and Shane Spann were de­feated 14-19 by P Balder­son’s team; Dan Robin­son, Jim Janz, Luchie Gardel and Michael Kin­n­ear drew 21-all against Peter Black­burn’s team; and Scott Kin­n­ear, Shane May, Scott Hamil­ton and Wayne Han­d­ley were de­feated 15-22 by R Spence’s team.

The re­sults left Proser­pine with 0 match points, ½ rink point and mi­nus 12 mar­gin.

Di­vi­sion 4 played against Sa­rina at Proser­pine. Sandy Daf­fara, Steve Lawrie, Ross Reville and Barry Zill­mann were de­feated 19-25 by B Bet­tien’s team; Neil Robin­son, Dale Haack, Ted Cullen and Kevin Thoro­good’s team were de­feated 11-32 by L Smith’s team. This gave Proser­pine 0 match points, 0 rink wins and mi­nus 27.

On Sun­day af­ter­noon there were two first round mixed sin­gles games played. Ma­ree Daf­fara de­feated Heather Brown 25-22 and Al­lan Per- shouse de­feated Philip Brown 27-22.

In Proser­pine Ladies Bowls, last Wed­nes­day was dis­rupted by rain.

Ac­tion re­turned on Thurs­day with round 1 of this year’s Pen­nants. Heather Pat­ullo, Dot Hin­schen, Heather Brown and Ma­ree Daf­fara were de­feated 35-10 by Bar­bara Clan­field’s team; Lois Read, June Blair, Joan McGrath and He­len Muller came back to level their game 16-all against Ron­delle McDer­mott’s team. This gives Proser­pine 0 match points mi­nus 25.

To­day is the fi­nal of Club Cham­pi­onship Sin­gles and Pairs. Next game of Pen­nants is June 10, at 9am, at Mackay. The bus leaves at 6.45am.
