Young writers learn from pros
LEARNING to write has reached another level of fun with popular author Melaina Feranda making her way to the Whitsundays.
Ms Feranda is headed to the Whitsunday Regional Libraries to conduct three writer’s workshops on Tuesday, June 21, and Wednesday, June 22.
The acclaimed author of 35 young adult and children’s books has conducted multiple creative writing workshops and masterclasses across Australia.
Having previously conducted a workshop here last year, Ms Feranda said she couldn’t wait to come back.
“It’s a wonderful place and I got a fantastic reception last time so I hope to meet a whole lot of new people and maybe some from before,” she said.
Ms Feranda said it was engaging with people and hearing people’s different stories which sparked her interest in conducting workshops.
“I’ve been teaching for years and I derive a lot of enery and joy from sharing what I know,” she said.
“I find it all very stimulating and I really enjoy watching other people’s creative processes.”
Three workshops will run over the two days, these being: Unleash Your Creativity, Making it Good Enough to Publish, and Creating Compelling Characters.
On Tuesday, the workshops will be held at the Collinsville Library from 9am to 12pm and Bowen Library from 1.30pm to 4.30pm.
On Wednesday, Proserpine Library will hold a workshop from 9am to 12pm and Cann- nonvale Library will hold the last workshop from 1.30pm to 4.30pm.
Mayor Andrew Willcox said having someone with Ms Feranda’s experience would be a great advantage for new writers and those interested in the craft.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for our local budding writers to learn valuable skills from an accomplished author,” he said.
