Mackay edge out Air­lie in car­ni­val

BOWLS: Air­lie Beach Bowls Club Wednesday men’s had a healthy num­ber of 18 at­tend­ing the games for triples. Win­ners on the day were Nik Fern­bach, Bob Fen­ney and Herb Se­comb, scor­ing a great 27 against Rick Brunell, Ron Spence and Steve Tat­tam (13).

It was close for Graeme Herd, Tim Tay­lor and John Stark, who marginally beat Keith Dunn, Jim Cairns and Dan McLeod 22 to 20.

Scor­ing 26 to 17, Rick Galea, David Stock and Peter Law­ton beat Bruce Purdy, John Sladek and Rus­sell Bramich.

Last week­end was the an­nual Whit­sun­day Coast Fours Bowls Car­ni­val.

A hard bat­tle saw North Mackay’s team of David Peet, Dan Peet, Peter Shep­herd and Ja­son Heath take first prize with 43.

Sec­ond went to an Air­lie team of David Dias, Rus­sell Bramish, Peter Wright and Amando Is­gro, scor­ing 34, fol­lowed by Louise Ma­hony, Julie Stark, Ladda Pur­die and John Stark with 16.

Round win­ners: North­ern Beaches, Air­lie Beach, St.He­lens, North Mackay and Wan­garatta. Any­one who knew Sandy Bar­rile is in­vited to pay their re­spects to­day at the club from 1pm.
