Mackay edge out Airlie in carnival
BOWLS: Airlie Beach Bowls Club Wednesday men’s had a healthy number of 18 attending the games for triples. Winners on the day were Nik Fernbach, Bob Fenney and Herb Secomb, scoring a great 27 against Rick Brunell, Ron Spence and Steve Tattam (13).
It was close for Graeme Herd, Tim Taylor and John Stark, who marginally beat Keith Dunn, Jim Cairns and Dan McLeod 22 to 20.
Scoring 26 to 17, Rick Galea, David Stock and Peter Lawton beat Bruce Purdy, John Sladek and Russell Bramich.
Last weekend was the annual Whitsunday Coast Fours Bowls Carnival.
A hard battle saw North Mackay’s team of David Peet, Dan Peet, Peter Shepherd and Jason Heath take first prize with 43.
Second went to an Airlie team of David Dias, Russell Bramish, Peter Wright and Amando Isgro, scoring 34, followed by Louise Mahony, Julie Stark, Ladda Purdie and John Stark with 16.
Round winners: Northern Beaches, Airlie Beach, St.Helens, North Mackay and Wangaratta. Anyone who knew Sandy Barrile is invited to pay their respects today at the club from 1pm.
