Leanne and Rod claim Ambrose

Whitsunday Times - - SPORT -

GOLF: Weather conditions were much milder last Sunday with twenty eight Whitsunday golfers playing a 2 ball Ambrose.

Breezes ramped up later in the morning, which sent some shots wayward and even moved balls sitting on the greens. Although clouds were threatening, conditions stayed dry for the morning.

For a change in tempo, the longest drive was set on the second with some amazing drives onto, next to or over the green. Leanne Abernethy and Rod Wecker walked away the winners on 61.25.

David Hoy and Ross Richards on 68 were runners up, followed by Tiina Randmae and Gary Goddard on 68.25 on a countback from Geoff Harrison and Wilf Herweg.

The longest drives in A Grade was Geoff Harrison who drove over the green, just a metre inside the wire screen and B Grade was Kevin Mills. For the ladies it was (1-39) Pam Casey and (40+) Robyn Mills.

Nearest the pins all in went to Reg Kercher and Kevin Mills for the 2nd shot on the 2nd, Geoff Harrison and Wilf Herweg for the 2nd shot on the 9th, Leanne Abernethy and Rod Wecker for the 1st shot on the 13th, and Dean Kercher and Scotty Wardroper for the 2nd shot on the 16th. Next week the club will play a single Stableford competition.

ALL SMILES: David Hoy, Tiina Randmae, Ross Richards, and Leanne Abernethy (absent: Gary Goddard, Rod Wecker) after a successful round for the Whitsunday Golf Club.
