MP called upon to support fire shed

Whitsunday Times - - LOCAL NEWS -

FEDERAL MP for Dawson George Christensen has shown his support for the Cannonvalley Rural Fire Brigade to fund a multiple use shed.

The shed, which would be built on Robinson Road in Cannonvale, would provide a spot for service vehicles and equipment as well as a place to hold meetings and training instead of the homes of volunteers.

Mr Christensen said the project was a “no brainer”.

“I don’t think it’s a big ask, if the State Government got involved they should gift it to the service,” he said.

“It’s not like it’s a private developer asking for it, it’s for a community facility.”

Fire Warden, Peter Anderson said they were asking the State Government for $130,000 for the 1000sq km piece of land to build.

“We have 470 properties to protect here and 40 members who are becoming disheartened,” he said.

“We’ve been trying to get this off the ground for six years.”

PLANNING: Tim Murphy, Peter Anderson, MP George Christensen, Tim Murphy and Robert Downey at the location on Robinson Road where the new shed would be built.
