Quickskips takes rain free but blustery race

Whitsunday Times - - ON THE WATER -

THE third race of the Cumberland Charter Yachts June twilight series saw 12 boats out on the water braving the blustery conditions last Wednesday.

Luckily, the threatening rain didn’t eventuate during the race. In the multihull division,

Aeolus took out the Doyle Sails best start award, with

Overdrive soon taking the lead. Overdrive held on to this for the rest of the race, to take line honours and first on handicap, with the quick starting Aeolus coming in second. Quickskips lost their mainsail when the halyard webbing broke soon after the start and was unable to finish. Division 2 had their usual closely fought start. Wobbly Boot won the start but Reignition was out in front by the first mark and managed to hold this position for the duration of the race to take out position and line honours in Division 2.

Dehler Magic had a flyer to be a close second and taking the handicap win.

QMS ended up second on handicap but the race for third was an absolute nail biter.

Twister just took out third place honours from Wobbly

Boot by a margin of just three seconds.

There were only four boats in Division 3, which is a surprise as it is usually the biggest fleet out of all the classes.

Kameruka took out the best start and held the front to the finish taking line, taking out both line and position honours as well. Masquerade and Synchronicity were never far behind the leader but were not able to steal the win from

Kameruka, both finishing within a minute of the leader, second and third respectively.

Anthea, the only keel boat on the fleet, bought up the rear.

Thanks go to the sponsors for the day, Cumberland Yacht Charters, Doyle Sails and Whitsunday Industrial Sewing and to our volunteers on the start boat, Dave and Brendon.
