IT WASN’T a happy night before Christmas for a woman who pleaded guilty to two charges stemming from a Christmas Eve assault.

The 32-year-old was charged with breach of bail and assault occasioning bodily harm after she twice punched another woman at house in Cannonvale.

Police were called around 7pm after an argument broke out, with the woman accusing the other woman of sleeping with her ex-partner.

She punched the woman and at one point picked up a nearby gas bottle and threatened her, the court was told.

The other woman then picked up the phone and called police and was punched again.

Defence lawyer Rosemary Varley said it was out of character for her client and that she had suffered from previous violent relationships.

Magistrate Simon Young noted the woman had no previous history of violent behaviour.

The woman was sentenced to a total of five months’ imprisonment, wholly suspended for 18 months.
