Club launches be­gin­ner sailor win­ter courses

THE Whit­sun­day Sailing Club is tak­ing ex­pres­sions of in­ter­est for learn-to-sail courses for all age groups from nine to 90.

The club has a range of boats avail­able for peo­ple to come and learn to sail or crew on a yacht or dinghy. ed on week­ends or dur­ing the week, sub­ject to dely 17. mand. Club in­struc­tors are af­fil­i­ated with Aus­tralian Sailing, the peak body for the sport in Aus­tralia, and can of­fer ev­ery­thing a bud­ding sailor needs to know.

The fleet in­cludes sin­gle-sail Opti Tack­ers for chil-dren aged up to about 13. and laser dinghies, which are a ver­sa­tile craft that can be rigged ac­cord­ing to the skill level of the sailor, from 13-year-olds to adults. The club also plans to of­fer keel boats to learn­ers, ei­ther to helm or crew. They are an op­tion for any­body who wants to have a go. Club sailing of­fi­cer Ross Chisholm said he was look- at be­gin­ning the learnto-sail ses­sions from Ju“I think it is im­por­tant to get some ex­po­sure in the lo­cal com­mu­nity,” he said.
