Festival is bonding for mother and son

Whitsunday Times - - ARLIE BEACH RUNNING FESTIVAL 2016 -

BONDING as a family was all part of the experience for Julie Cauchi and son Tim, as they took on the Cruise Whitsundays Airlie Beach Running Festival last year.

Julie, 44 and Tim, 12, took part in the 5km run together as a way for Julie to gain back her fitness following the birth of her baby.

It was also a way of getting Tim, who loves words and books and reached the top 20 in Channel 10’s Great Australian Spelling Bee program last year, “out of his comfort zone”.

“It was something I wanted to do with Tim, who is very academic and excels in that area, but is not as strong in sport,” Julie said.

“For him to get involved and see what it’s like to work towards something and fin- ish it, in a sporting sense, was really great – it was something out of his comfort zone and I was very proud of him.”

Registrations close at midnight Friday July 15 for the Primary Schools Challenge.
