Kinnear wins title away from Saroglia
BOWLS: On Saturday the semi-finals and final of the Men’s Championships Singles was played. In the morning some outstanding bowls were played in the semi-finals.
Graeme Kinnear got off to a flyer, leading Gavin Milne 19 to 6 at one stage.
Gavin then staged a remarkable comeback to be only one behind with the scores at 24 to 23.
Graeme then took the next end, eventually winning 25 to 23.
In the other semi-final, which kept all the spectators on the edge of their seats for all 31 ends, Barry Saroglia won, defeating Michael Kinnear 25 to 24.
This was a high-quality game.
Graeme then took on Barry in the final with Graeme emerging victorious 25 to 21 in a match which lasted an incredible 34 ends.
This was Graeme’s first Championship singles title. Graeme will now contest the Champion of Champions Singles.
Gavin Milne and Shane Spann contest the Champion of Champions Pairs and Brett Saroglia, Luchie Gardel, Michael Kinnear and Graeme will contest the Champion of Champions Fours.
On Wednesday, the final two games of this year’s Pennants were played. In the morning Proserpine played against Souths Suburban. Helen Muller’s team won 27-11 and Heather Brown’s team lost 14–23.
The team has been selected for the Johnston Shield to be held at Sarina on Tuesday, July 19.
Helen Muller will play singles, L Read and J McGrath will play the pairs and V Spann, H Patullo, M Daffara and H Brown will play the fours.
