Kin­n­ear wins ti­tle away from Saroglia

BOWLS: On Satur­day the semi-fi­nals and fi­nal of the Men’s Cham­pi­onships Sin­gles was played. In the morn­ing some out­stand­ing bowls were played in the semi-fi­nals.

Graeme Kin­n­ear got off to a flyer, lead­ing Gavin Milne 19 to 6 at one stage.

Gavin then staged a re­mark­able comeback to be only one be­hind with the scores at 24 to 23.

Graeme then took the next end, even­tu­ally win­ning 25 to 23.

In the other semi-fi­nal, which kept all the spec­ta­tors on the edge of their seats for all 31 ends, Barry Saroglia won, de­feat­ing Michael Kin­n­ear 25 to 24.

This was a high-qual­ity game.

Graeme then took on Barry in the fi­nal with Graeme emerg­ing vic­to­ri­ous 25 to 21 in a match which lasted an in­cred­i­ble 34 ends.

This was Graeme’s first Cham­pi­onship sin­gles ti­tle. Graeme will now con­test the Cham­pion of Cham­pi­ons Sin­gles.

Gavin Milne and Shane Spann con­test the Cham­pion of Cham­pi­ons Pairs and Brett Saroglia, Luchie Gardel, Michael Kin­n­ear and Graeme will con­test the Cham­pion of Cham­pi­ons Fours.


On Wed­nes­day, the fi­nal two games of this year’s Pen­nants were played. In the morn­ing Proser­pine played against Souths Sub­ur­ban. He­len Muller’s team won 27-11 and Heather Brown’s team lost 14–23.

The team has been se­lected for the John­ston Shield to be held at Sa­rina on Tues­day, July 19.

He­len Muller will play sin­gles, L Read and J McGrath will play the pairs and V Spann, H Pat­ullo, M Daf­fara and H Brown will play the fours.
