FC smash seven goals to ce­ment sec­ond spot

A first half blitz has seen Whit­sun­day FC smash Coun­try United 7-1on Satur­day at Whit­sun­day Sportspark.

The bot­tom placed United started ter­ri­bly with a penalty to Whit­sun­day in the open­ing min­utes of the game giv­ing FC a 1-0 a lead.

United hit back not long af­ter to make it 1-all but a goal to Ryal Lee in the 18th minute opened the flood­gates for FC.

The home side ran in a to­tal of six first half goals with dou­bles to Sam Reynolds and Ben Mclough­lin as they took a 6-1 ad­van­tage into the break.

It was a solid at­tack­ing per­for­mance with Mclough­lin com­plet­ing his hat-trick with the sole sec­ond half goal. The win sees Whit- sun­day move to out­right sec­ond on the lad­der.

The Whit­sun­day Re­serves fought out a hard 2-2 draw against the Rangers on Satur­day.

A first half goal to Nathan Soth­mann meant the teams went into the break 1-all.

Owen Hod­gen got Whit­sun­day their sec­ond goal in the 61st minute but dis­as­ter struck two min­utes later when Harry Hod­gen was shown a red card.

De­spite be­ing a man down, they held on for the draw.

In a re­peat of last week’s match up, the Whit­sun­day ladies went down 10-1 to Mag­pies Reign on Satur­day.

Whit­sun­day 1st Divi­sion also saw a heavy loss as they went down 12-0 to Rangers.
