Rain cuts short weekend play
GOLF: Unseasonable rain interrupted play at the Proserpine Golf Course at the weekend.
Saturday’s competition and the Foursomes Championships on Sunday were deferred to a later date.
The sole men’s competition played was on Thursday, 50 members turning up for a Stableford event over nine and 18 holes.
In the 18-hole competition, Ron Edkins (38) claimed the Div. 1 win, ahead of runner-up Gavin Kerwand (36).
Div. 2 went to John Roser (38), beating runner-up Tom Fleming by one point.
In the rundown were Albert Pini (36), Ron Jamieson (35), with Andrew Albergo, Peter Wilson, Peter Krause, Brendon Meharry, Ross Meade and Mark Thompson all carding 34, and Paul Joice and Peter Browning 33.
Mark Thompson won the nine-hole competition with a score of 22, ahead of runnerup Ross Meade who beat John Roser on countback, both with 20, and Brendon Meharry on 19.

The ladies played a Stableford event on Wednesday, sponsored by Tina Badenhorst.
Kath Borer won with a fine score of 42.
Runner-up Di Dobbins won on a countback from Faye Elder, Mandy Patterson and Jacqui Wall, all on 35.
The rest of the rundown comprised Trish McNeill (30), visitor from Kingscote Golf Club Linda Werner, Beryl Nosworthy (29), Rehab Hull (28), Beryl Miller (27), and Jan Shuwalow (26).
Nearest the pins went to Jacqui Wall (2), Trish McNeill (7), Beryl Miller (13), and Paula McQuat (16).
This weekend Proserpine will host the Golf NQ Ladies Pennants comp all day on Saturday and on Sunday morning, with the course closed for other play.
On Sunday afternoon is a Stableford event for the men.
