Rain cuts short week­end play

GOLF: Unsea­son­able rain in­ter­rupted play at the Proser­pine Golf Course at the week­end.

Satur­day’s com­pe­ti­tion and the Four­somes Cham­pi­onships on Sun­day were de­ferred to a later date.

The sole men’s com­pe­ti­tion played was on Thurs­day, 50 mem­bers turn­ing up for a Stable­ford event over nine and 18 holes.

In the 18-hole com­pe­ti­tion, Ron Ed­kins (38) claimed the Div. 1 win, ahead of run­ner-up Gavin Ker­wand (36).

Div. 2 went to John Roser (38), beat­ing run­ner-up Tom Flem­ing by one point.

In the run­down were Al­bert Pini (36), Ron Jamieson (35), with An­drew Al­bergo, Peter Wil­son, Peter Krause, Bren­don Me­harry, Ross Meade and Mark Thomp­son all card­ing 34, and Paul Joice and Peter Brown­ing 33.

Mark Thomp­son won the nine-hole com­pe­ti­tion with a score of 22, ahead of run­nerup Ross Meade who beat John Roser on count­back, both with 20, and Bren­don Me­harry on 19.

Near­est the pins: Bren­don Me­harry on No.2, John Roser (9), Chris Weigand (13), and Robert Webb (16). Ladies golf

The ladies played a Stable­ford event on Wednes­day, spon­sored by Tina Baden­horst.

Kath Borer won with a fine score of 42.

Run­ner-up Di Dob­bins won on a count­back from Faye Elder, Mandy Pat­ter­son and Jac­qui Wall, all on 35.

The rest of the run­down com­prised Tr­ish McNeill (30), vis­i­tor from Kingscote Golf Club Linda Werner, Beryl Nos­wor­thy (29), Re­hab Hull (28), Beryl Miller (27), and Jan Shuwalow (26).

Near­est the pins went to Jac­qui Wall (2), Tr­ish McNeill (7), Beryl Miller (13), and Paula McQuat (16).

This week­end Proser­pine will host the Golf NQ Ladies Pen­nants comp all day on Satur­day and on Sun­day morn­ing, with the course closed for other play.

On Sun­day af­ter­noon is a Stable­ford event for the men.

Thurs­day men will com­pete in a stroke event in two divi­sions over 18 holes, as well as a nine hole event.
