Woolworths to remain
WOOLWORTHS stores in the Whitsunday region will not be affected by the closure of 17 major stores across Australia.
On Monday, the retail giant announced it would close 21 stores in total, four of which are in smaller metro areas.
A Woolworths spokesperson said 500 jobs would be cut across the business but these would be located in the head office in Sydney or in a distrubition centre in Victoria, which is set to close in 2019.
The job cuts are expected to cost the company $35 million in redundancy payments.
It is still unknown which stores will be shutting down.
