Customers confused by NBN
UNCERTAINTY about NBN availability in Airlie Beach and Cannonvale has led some customers to complain the whole thing is a “joke”.
Annabelle Evans initially raised the issue on the Facebook group Whitsundays Noticeboard.
“So much for NBN being available in all of Cannonvale. The nbnco.com site was saying it’s ready, Telstra was saying it’s ready but build hasn’t even commenced in my street and others around me,” she said.
Other complaints also rolled in.
“Yep we are with you! The install got completed like a year ago. Said it was all ready to go and now Telstra are saying NBN website is saying it's not ready yet! What the?” Georgie Victor wrote.
“I was approved for Optus two months ago. Only to get a phone call that its not yet available, what the fluff? I need it soon for my study- ing,” Lynne Torrepalma-Neylan said.
“This just gets confusing but apparently there are some people connected in Twin Creek Court but when my neighbour went to connect with Telstra they told them the same story that its not available in this street?” Jamie Morrissey added.
A spokesperson from NBN Co said the majority of the region was now covered.
“Over 10,500 premises in Airlie Beach and Cannonvale region can order an nbn service right now and experience the benefits of super- fast broadband,” she said.
“Additionally, construction is expected to start in the third quarter of this year to provide a further 610 premises in Woodwark East and Cannon Valley with access to the nbn.”
The spokesperson reminded customers the switch to NBN was not automatic.
“Residents and businesses need to call their preferred internet provider and choose a plan that best suits their needs,” she said.
Telstra Country Wide area general manager Rachel Cliffe said there were no current plans for further rollouts with 6348 premises in Cannonvale/Airlie Beach NBN ready. “NBN Co has not released any details about further roll out activity,” she said.
The NBN Co spokesman said a map, updated weekly, would tell people if they were eligible. Go to nbnco. com.au/learn-about-thenbn/rollout-map.html.
