Blair and Brown take Club Champs
On Tuesday the Proserpine Ladies Bowling Club team travelled to Sarina for the Johnston Shield.
In the first game they played against Mackay City – Helen Muller won her singles, Lois Read and Joan McGrath won their pairs and Vicki Spann, Heather Patullo, Maree Daffara and Heather Brown lost their Fours. On Tuesday afternoon they played against Seaforth winning the Singles and the Fours and narrowly missing out on the Pairs. On Thursday morning they played against Northern Beaches in the semi-final – they lost the Singles and Fours and won the Pairs putting them out of the contest, won by North Mackay.
On Wednesday afternoon, the final of the Club Championship Pairs was played.
June Blair and Heather Brown defeated Fran Porter and Helen Muller 28-11.
This week, Helen Muller and Vicki Spann are wished every luck and great bowls when they compete in the Champion of Champions. Helen received a bye in the first round and has had a withdrawal from her second round opponent, beginning her contest on Wednesday at Marian. Vicki plays against Pauline Turchett from City in the first round on Tuesday morning at Pioneer Valley.
Next Monday, August 1, is the Proserpine Whitsunday Carnival. It is colourful, tropical attire and members are each asked to bring two Cent Sale prizes.
Proserpine Bowls Club
On Saturday morning Shane Spann had a real battle on his hands to defeat Maree Daffara in the Mixed Singles 25-20. On Saturday afternoon, the Mixed Triples was played. Philip Brown, Ross Reville and Kevin Thorogood stunned Jonathan Bye, Gavin Milne and Shane Spann defeating them 31-21.
On Sunday morning, Shane May defeated Dale Haack 2716 in a game of Mixed Singles. On Sunday afternoon two games of Competition Mixed Pairs were played. Vicki Spann and Wayne Handley defeated Phil Brown and Heather Brown 23-13. Dale Haack and Maree Daffara survived a late charge by Wendy Pomeroy and Shane May winning 20-18.
A total of 17 members and visitors turned out for social bowls on Sunday afternoon.
The Men’s Fours team that contested the Champion of Champion Fours at Sarina against Seaforth on Saturday were defeated in their game as they lost a 5 in the later stages and couldn’t recover.
