ONE YEAR AGO...
IN THIS edition one year ago today, Whitsunday Regional Council and the Whitsunday community were gearing up for the inaugural Mayor’s Charity Masquerade Ball to raise funds for the Black Dog Institute.
Former mayor Jennifer Whitney spoke of her own experiences with suicide after learning that a close friend had passed away. “Even saving one life would make it all worth it,” Cr Whitney said.
Held at the Proserpine Entertainment Centre, Cr Whitney said she hoped the night could go some way to making a difference.
“The Black Dog Institute is a not-for-profit organisation and a world leader in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mental illness,” she said.
The night featured a charity auction including a framed signed jersey from North Queensland Cowboys.
