ONE YEAR AGO...

Whitsunday Times - - NEWS WELCOME -

THIS time last year, it was Whitsunday Regional Council which dominated the headlines with election day drawing close.

Former mayor Jennifer Whitney was “ready for the fight” against current mayor Andrew Willcox and new contender Eric Oliver.

As for division 1, the fight was on between current division 1 councillor, Jan Clifford and long-time local Michelle Lynes.

International flights from New Zealand to the Whitsunday Coast Airport were on track to touch down by the end of last year.

And the controversial Chinatown development made headlines once again with the contract being terminated after Peter ‘Raymond’ Wang, of the China Australia Entrepreneurs Association Inc, failed to pay his dues.

Mr Wang’s request for yet another payment extension was rejected by the council.
