THIS time last year, Chinatown was at the forefront again with the deciding vote of whether it would go ahead made by then-deputy mayor Andrew Willcox.

It came as the developer, Peter ‘Raymond’ Wang, was unable to stick to the terms of the contract. The decision drew a halt to the development.

Preparations were under way for the region’s first international flights. New Zealand was first on the list and it was expected flights could be operating by winter 2016.

It was big news for BIG4 Adventure Resort, which took out Bronze at the National Australian Tourism Awards, and some celebrity faces popped into town, with Kyal and Kara Demmrich from renovating series The Block helping to celebrate Beaumont Tiles Airlie Beach coming under new ownership.
