Com­pe­ti­tion heat­ing up at Air­lie club

BOWLS: Com­pe­ti­tion was in full swing at the Air­lie Beach Bowls Club this week.

Ladies day on Tues­day fea­tured a B-sin­gles game with win­ner Regina Tell de­feat­ing Shirley Wod­son 25-15 while the A-sin­gles saw Betty Ni­colle de­feat Doreen Peadon 25-10.

In the women’s B-pairs Elaine Kip­pen and Regina Aquilina beat Di Dob­bins and Lane Telford 19-11.

There was a game of Men’s A-sin­gles on Tues­day and Tony White­horn de­feated John Beachey 25-23.

On Wednesday af­ter­noon, Betty White­horn, John Sladek and Rick Galea de­feated Regina Tell, John Sladek and Graeme Herd 25-18. In other games Jim Cairns, Neil Moore and Rick Brunell de­feated Bob Spees, Nik Fern­bach and Tony White­horn 20-19 and Grant Souter and Tim Smith de­feated Lou Ro­gan and Bob Fen­ney 20-14.

Men’s B-sin­gles on Fri­day af­ter­noon saw Bob Spees de­feat Bob Fen­ney 25-15. Men’s A-sin­gles saw Rick Galea de­feat Wally Rein­tals 25-3 and Mann Is­gro de­feat Nik Fern­bach 25-15. Rick Brunell de­feated Graeme Herd 25-16 and Nathan Har­riott de­feated Tony White­he­orn 25-18.

Saturday Au­tumn Scroungers saw new bowlers Glenda O’Con­nor, Rob O’Con­nor and Wendy Fo­ley play­ing for the first time. The over­all win­ner was Margo Stan­ley de­feat­ing Tony White­horn 14-10.

Saturday Cham­pi­onship games saw Bob Spees, Neil Moore and Rick Brunell de­feat Bob McMa­hon, Steve Tat­tam and Nik Fern­bach 30-26 in the Men’s 2 Bowls Triples, Men’s B-pairs saw Bob Fen­ney and Graeme Herd de­feat Neil Frazer and Wally Rein­tals 29-8.

Sunday Men’s B-sin­gles Rick Brunell de­feat Wally Rein­tals 25-5. Sunday saw Men’s A-pairs played with Nathan Har­riott and Mann Is­gro de­feat­ing Rick Galea and Neil Moore 32-7. Betty White­horn beat Regina Tell in the Ladies B-sin­gles 28-3.
