Luck is no fac­tor in Ir­ish vic­tory

GOLF: A storm at the half­way mark of Saturday’s Ir­ish Team Event slowed the scor­ing at Proser­pine Golf Club.

Most of the field had an 11am shot­gun start, giv­ing those who had an early hit-off time a dis­tinct advantage.

The day served as the opener for the 2017 sea­son, and Pa­tron Bill Woods hit off the first tee shot right on 11am.

The win­ning team with a score of 104 points was Mark Richards, Wendy Bradley, Jill Farinelli and Chris Weigand.

The run­ners-up were Ge­orge Steane, Ben Smith and Craig and Nic Langevad with 98 points.

On Wednesday the women played a four-ball Stable­ford with the winners be­ing Anna Win­ter­bourn and Robyn Mills with 45 points.

The run­ners–up were Beryl Nos­wor­thy and Di Dob­bins both on 44.

A to­tal of 48 play­ers took part in Thursday’s stroke event.

The A-grade win­ner was Glenn McKer­ley with 63 nett in front of Paul Douth­waite with 65.

In the B-grade sec­tion Mick Dibben on 64, nar­rowly edged out Rob Webb on 65.

The nine hole win­ner was Mick Dibben with 29 nett, fol­lowed by Joe Taylor and Glenn McKer­ley 31.

Next Thursday’s com­pe­ti­tion will be a sin­gle Stable­ford, and Saturday’s event will be a mem­bers’ spon­sored Stable­ford.


THE ju­nior golfers were out in force on Sunday.

In the end, the three hole gross was won by Ge­or­gia Holmes and the nett was won by Caycee Bartz.

The six hole gross went to Josh McDou­gal, the run­ners-up were Ay­den Bartz and Lo­gan Dev­ery with the nett go­ing to Blake Love­lock, in front of run­ner-up Zane Wil­liams.

The nine hole gross win­ner was Harper Hen­der­son while the nett win­ner was Liam Mitchell.

The 18-hole win­ner was Levi Holmes.
