Luck is no factor in Irish victory
GOLF: A storm at the halfway mark of Saturday’s Irish Team Event slowed the scoring at Proserpine Golf Club.
Most of the field had an 11am shotgun start, giving those who had an early hit-off time a distinct advantage.
The day served as the opener for the 2017 season, and Patron Bill Woods hit off the first tee shot right on 11am.
The winning team with a score of 104 points was Mark Richards, Wendy Bradley, Jill Farinelli and Chris Weigand.
The runners-up were George Steane, Ben Smith and Craig and Nic Langevad with 98 points.
On Wednesday the women played a four-ball Stableford with the winners being Anna Winterbourn and Robyn Mills with 45 points.
The runners–up were Beryl Nosworthy and Di Dobbins both on 44.
A total of 48 players took part in Thursday’s stroke event.

In the B-grade section Mick Dibben on 64, narrowly edged out Rob Webb on 65.
The nine hole winner was Mick Dibben with 29 nett, followed by Joe Taylor and Glenn McKerley 31.
Next Thursday’s competition will be a single Stableford, and Saturday’s event will be a members’ sponsored Stableford.
THE junior golfers were out in force on Sunday.
In the end, the three hole gross was won by Georgia Holmes and the nett was won by Caycee Bartz.
