Run­ner blitzes the field in Air­lie first

RUN­NING: A dom­i­nant lead of 51 sec­onds to Damien Cu­sack was more than enough to claim parkrun hon­ours on Saturday in his de­but at Air­lie Beach as he came home in a solid time of 19:52.

A to­tal of 64 run­ners hit the start­ing line at Abell Point Ma­rina on Saturday morn­ing in another strong turnout.

Jamie Jochheim was the next best in a time of 20:43, closely fol­lowed by third-placed male run­ner Hamil­ton Is­land Run­ning and Triathlon Club mem­ber Justin Knight-Gray in 20:52.

First-timer Alyce Garth made the most of her Air­lie parkrun de­but as she claimed the women’s hon­ours in a dom­i­nant time of 20:52.

Riana Young Cashinella came home in sec­ond for the women in 24:32 and another first-timer, Aylie Spence, rounded out the top three in a time of 25:28.

There were nine new per­sonal bests set on the day and nine first-timers to the Air­lie Beach track. The event co­in­cided with the Su­per League Triathlon on Hamil­ton Is­land over the week­end.

Air­lie Beach parkrun runs ev­ery Saturday from 7am.
