MKR stars hit resort
IF YOU’RE a fan of Channel Seven’s My Kitchen Rules, then you should’ve had your paparazzi hat on in Airlie Beach on Saturday.
A few television stars from the popular cooking program checked in to Coral Sea Resort on Saturday.
Mackay local Della Whearty is no stranger to the region.
“I’m always in Airlie. I love it here, it’s awesome. I went to Schoolies here,” she said.
Her foodie friend and MKR partner Sarah Tully met her husband in the region.
“I first went to Mackay to do my nursing graduate year and I met my husband here. Della introduced us,” she said.
Della was a big fan of the show and they both decided to apply three years ago but were unsuccessful.
“We got an email again this year and we filled out the application form and here we are. It was a bit of a dream,” Della said.
Brisbane siblings Amy and Tyson Murr were also enjoying their time in the region.
“I’ve been once, a few years ago now for a holiday,” Tyson said.
“I loved it back then and I’m excited for this weekend.”
It was Amy’s first time to the region.
“We’re going to try and see as much as we can,” she said.
“I’ve never been before so driving in, Della and Tully being locals, they were like ‘wait, the best view is coming up in a second. Look over that crest, you see all over the beautiful water’.”
Although the teams were only spending one night in Airlie, Della said she already had a plan for how she would spend it.
“Every time I come to Airlie I literally eat seafood and drink cocktails. That’s it. I plan to do the same,” she said.
“I used to like going to Fish D’vine as a starter. I like Paddy Shenanigans. It’s the best, I love it.
“Everyone in Mackay has been the best, especially our families in Mackay.
“I think that’s the most exciting thing that’s come from it, representing the region.”
Catch the teams on Channel Seven from Monday to Wednesday at 7.30pm and Sunday at 7pm.
