BRIDGE: With several Airlie Beach Bridge Club members away last Thursday the club swapped partners and had lots of fun while practising some new moves.

On Monday it was time to get serious with full tables with Linda Priday and Dewi Hughes the winner with a score of 29.

They were followed by Dale Hell and Eric Bottle with 25 and then Neil Cawthorne and Trevor Mirren with 23 and Dot Aspinal and Gillian Blackie with 19.

Dale and Eric had no luck in Yeppoon but still enjoyed the weekend catching up with fellow bridge players from Townsville, Mackay and Bowen.

Some of the highlights of Monday’s game were when on board 2 east bid 3NT and made 8 and went down but when west bid 3NT same hand they made with 9 tricks.

On board 9 E bid 4H and made 12 while E on the other side bid 5D and only made 8.

On board 16 both teams underbid and made game. On board 21 E bid 4H and made 8 going down and south bid 4S and made 10.

President Dale Hell is off to Brisbane to meet with all of the bridge presidents of Queensland for a conference to discuss QBF and the ABF objectives for the coming year and to put forward their own suggestions to make the game better.

There will be bridge on Thursday at 6.30pm and the following Monday at 12.30pm and all are welcome.
