THERE was ev­ery rea­son to cel­e­brate this time last year as Proser­pine State School teacher Ryan Gil­mour was voted the re­gion’s “favourite” teacher across the Whit­sun­days and Mackay.

The fed­eral elec­tion had be­gun and the three can­di­dates for Dawson – LNP’s Ge­orge Chris­tensen, La­bor’s Frank Gil­bert and The Greens’ Jonathon Dykyj – all agreed job cre­ation was go­ing to be a make-or-break is­sue.

The fu­ture of the big­gest fes­ti­val in the Whit­sun­days may have been in doubt but last year the Air­lie Beach Fes­ti­val of Mu­sic went ahead and it was ev­ery bit a suc­cess as ex­pected.

And there was a new face at Tourism Whit­sun­days.

We wel­comed the new chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer Craig Turner to the ta­ble and we got a lit­tle taste of what he planned to bring to the re­gion.
