THERE was every reason to celebrate this time last year as Proserpine State School teacher Ryan Gilmour was voted the region’s “favourite” teacher across the Whitsundays and Mackay.
The federal election had begun and the three candidates for Dawson – LNP’s George Christensen, Labor’s Frank Gilbert and The Greens’ Jonathon Dykyj – all agreed job creation was going to be a make-or-break issue.
The future of the biggest festival in the Whitsundays may have been in doubt but last year the Airlie Beach Festival of Music went ahead and it was every bit a success as expected.
And there was a new face at Tourism Whitsundays.
We welcomed the new chief executive officer Craig Turner to the table and we got a little taste of what he planned to bring to the region.
