Good breeze for twilighters
FINALLY a fine afternoon, with 12–15-knot south-easterly winds, saw the twilight fleet back on the bay last week.
Again there were only two boats competing in the multihull division.
Once the handicap for each boat was applied against their finishing times, Overdrive came out ahead of Ullman Sails by 50 seconds to take the day’s honours.
In the racing monohull division, it was a great start by Twister (Kevin Fogarty) as arch rival Queensland Marine Services (John Galloway) jumped the start and had to return.
On corrected time, the honours went to Twister from Treasure VIII, with Queensland Marine Services taking the minor placing.
In the Trailable Yacht/Cruising Yacht division, High Tide (Shannan Hart) managed the best start, heading into a race-long battle with Kameruka (Bob Beale).
Suzanne Marie (David Wintour), being better suited to the conditions of the day, took out the handicap win from Infarrction and Lorna Rose Too (Peter Mitchelson).
Off the beach news
Sunday afternoon saw a small but dedicated fleet sailing in the WSC Davenport series for off the beach dinghies.
In the first of three races, Zac Sleight bolted out of the start. The best of the rest was William Preat, who, together with Eden Humphrey and Jesse Frisch, has just started racing. William cleared the finish 20 seconds ahead of Jesse, with Eden two seconds behind.
Zac took race two and William won race three.
UNDER SAIL: Sunrise on the water of Pioneer Bay last Wednesday.
