THE on­go­ing de­bate of whether or not the Great Bar­rier Reef is dy­ing made head­lines last year.

A spe­cial spread out­lined what the truth was about the Whit­sun­days’ coral reefs by speak­ing with sci­en­tists, tourism op­er­a­tors and more.

Su­pery­achts started mak­ing their way to the Whit­sun­days and with Air­lie Beach con­sid­ered the sec­ond cousin to Hamil­ton Is­land when it came to su­pery­achts, Abell Point Ma­rina owner Paul Dar­rouzet was deter­mined to make the main­land a des­ti­na­tion in its own right.

Whit­sun­day Re­gional Coun­cil clamped down on il­le­gal camp­ing af­ter a photo on so­cial me­dia cap­tured a camper­van plugged into a coun­cil power box near a No Camp­ing Any­time sign.

And Air­lie’s fore­shore was given some TLC when more than 50 Eco Barge vol­un­teers took part in a land-based clean up.
