Blown out of the water
THE Whitsunday Sailing Club had no choice other than to cancel last week’s Whitsunday Twilight Race, following a gale wind warning which was issued by the Bureau of Meteorology.
This has had a flow on effect on overall and monthly results and caused a change in the program in coming weeks.
Ordinarily, sailing results are based on four Wednesday races each month.
Because this month has five Wednesdays, the fifth race was initially planned as a pursuit start contest.
Pursuit races give slower vessels a time handicap by allowing them to have a time headstart start over quicker boats which start later based on past performances.
Due to the cancellation last week, the pursuit race will not go ahead for the last Wednesday of May and will be replaced with race four.
The winner in each division will receive a trophy presented by Whitsunday Discount Marine.
The Wednesday twilight racing will continue each week from 4.30pm, with opportunities to crew on a yacht available to the public.
Anyone interested in getting involved are required to meet at the Whitsunday Sailing Club from 3pm.
The Sunset Bay race which was scheduled for Saturday will also be postponed due to the number of damaged boats unable to compete.
The next cruise rally organised by the Whitsunday Sailing Club will be held on Saturday June 3, starting at 10am.
CRUISING: The next Whitsunday Sailing Club cruise rally will take place in June.
