Vol­un­teers en­sure a suc­cess­ful May Day Car­ni­val

BOWLS: The Metropole Ho­tel May Day Car­ni­val was played at the week­end, with 14 teams bat­tling it out for vic­tory.

Great sports­man­ship and a per­fect run­ning green de­fined the car­ni­val.

The Mar­ian team, led by Barry Jack­son, brought home the gold, with a strong fin­ish to de­liver the win.

The North­ern Beaches side, spear­headed by Peter Peter­son, put on a strong per­for­mance to se­cure sec­ond place in the nail-bit­ing fin­ish.

Jimmy Janz’s team, con­sist­ing of a solid mix of Proser­pine and Collinsville play­ers, came in third fol­low­ing a strong ef­fort by ev­ery­one in­volved in the com­pe­ti­tion.

Proser­pine lady bowlers also took to the green last Wed­nes­day at Proser­pine Bowls Club for a game of so­cial bowls and two high-qual­ity games of Ch/Ch sin­gles.

Judy McKenzie, Lois Read and Heather Pat­ullo de­feated Fran Porter, Joyce Pat­ullo, June Blair and Lil­ian Har­ris 27–20 in the so­cials game.

In the sin­gles matches, Heather Brown was tri­umphant over Joan McGrath 26–18 and Wendy Pomeroy de­feated Carly Al­bert­son 27–13.
