KEVIN Wau­thier, 27, may no longer be in the coun­try but he still pleaded guilty in writ­ing to a pub­lic nui­sance of­fence.

Po­lice saw peo­ple fight­ing around 5am on May 1 in Air­lie Beach and charged Wau­thier.

In his let­ter to the court he said he had seen other peo­ple fight­ing and tried to stop them but he ended up hav­ing to pro­tect him­self.

He was fined $750 but no con­vic­tion was recorded.
