Close battle for first at Airlie Beach run
RUNNING: With the Whitsunday Running Festival getting close, runners were out in force on Saturday morning using parkrun as a measuring stick to get their pacing right.
This week 62 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom five were first timers and 16 recorded new personal bests. Representatives of three different clubs took part and eight volunteers helped out on the day.
Roland Henderson, of Whitsunday Running Club, was first over the line in 18:40. He was followed by Peter Moore, of Whitsunday Running Club, in 18:49 and Justin Helsham in 19:25.
Dawn-Michelle Romanella was first (8th overall) for the ladies in 21:42. She was followed by Teodora Dale in second in 22:24 and Cassandra Carman was third in 22:55.
The three highest age grades were recorded by Peter Moore (VM50-54) 79.01% for the time 18:49, Sylvie Martin (VW65-69) 78.72% for the time 26:33 and Roland Henderson (VM40-44) 74.82% for the time 18:40.
Airlie Beach parkrun is on every Saturday morning from 7am at Abell Point Marina.
