Close bat­tle for first at Air­lie Beach run

RUN­NING: With the Whit­sun­day Run­ning Fes­ti­val get­ting close, run­ners were out in force on Satur­day morn­ing us­ing parkrun as a mea­sur­ing stick to get their pac­ing right.

This week 62 peo­ple ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom five were first timers and 16 recorded new per­sonal bests. Rep­re­sen­ta­tives of three dif­fer­ent clubs took part and eight vol­un­teers helped out on the day.

Roland Hen­der­son, of Whit­sun­day Run­ning Club, was first over the line in 18:40. He was fol­lowed by Peter Moore, of Whit­sun­day Run­ning Club, in 18:49 and Justin Helsham in 19:25.

Dawn-Michelle Ro­manella was first (8th over­all) for the ladies in 21:42. She was fol­lowed by Teodora Dale in sec­ond in 22:24 and Cas­san­dra Car­man was third in 22:55.

The three high­est age grades were recorded by Peter Moore (VM50-54) 79.01% for the time 18:49, Sylvie Martin (VW65-69) 78.72% for the time 26:33 and Roland Hen­der­son (VM40-44) 74.82% for the time 18:40.

Air­lie Beach parkrun is on every Satur­day morn­ing from 7am at Abell Point Ma­rina.
