Brahmans crush the Miners
More than 60 points in massive win
RUGBY LEAGUE: The Whitsunday Brahmans have put the rest of the Mackay and District Rugby League competition on notice after a lopsided demolition of the Moranbah Miners on Saturday night.
Dominating either side of the half, the Brahmans finished 66-16 winners in front of a massive crowd at Denison Park in Bowen.
Leading 34-4 at half-time, the result was never in doubt as the Brahmans dominated the middle with their forward pack and their backs capitalised.
The Miners were never in it as poor defence and a solid Brahmans attack kept them working all night long. The Brahmans didn’t take their foot off the pedal in the second half, something that captain/coach Phil Ramage was proud of.
“Our forwards just dominated them. Us backs can’t use the ball unless our forwards are going forward and they were. They had a decent side and we just made them look second rate,” he said. “It was basic footy and we did it 10 out of 10. I don’t think we could have played any better.”
Isaac Richardson was dominant up the middle and Darcy Wright snagged four tries in a strong game alongside his brother Adam.
Despite an interrupted training week, Ramage said the team had bonded closely this year and it was showing on the field on Saturday.
“We just have a good country footy side with guys that want to play for each other and the jersey,” he said.
Played as part of the Legends of League event, Ramage said it was a fantastic night.
“(It was) a really good crowd for the legends game and everyone really enjoyed themselves. It’s good after what we’ve been through (post cyclone),” he said.
The Brahmans now head to Brothers on Sunday with Ramage calling the team their “bogey” side.
“It’s always been a really tight game. It’s going to be a tough one especially down there on Sunday afternoon.”
The Brahmans Reserves got their season back on track on Saturday with a solid 22-16 win over Moranbah, after leading 16-4 at half-time.
