Jail time for eye punch
A 35-YEAR-OLD Cannonvale man will serve time in prison after pleading guilty to punching his partner in the eye.
The man appeared in custody at Proserpine Magistrates Court on Monday, where it was also heard he’d had seven domestic violence related charges in the past four years.
Police were called around 2.45am on May 22 to a house in Cannonvale where police prosecutor Bernhard Berger said they found a woman in a bedroom with “bruising on her left eye lid and swelling on her cheek”.
After police spoke with both of them separately, the man denied a physical altercation had taken place. He was arrested and charged with contravening a domestic violence protection order.
The woman also appeared in court where she spoke with Magistrate Ron Muirhead and confirmed she wished to leave the Airlie Beach area.
In sentencing, Mr Muirhead said the man was not a first offender, had numerous domestic violence breaches in the past and that he continued to offend.
He was sentenced to six months prison, with seven days time already served and given a parole release date of July 22, 2017. A conviction was recorded.
