AN AFTERNOON of heavy drinking that ended in slapping a girl’s buttocks left Marcus Daniel Grainger with a $1500 hole in his pocket.
The 32-year-old Airlie Beach man was drinking with friends in town on the afternoon of August 21, 2016.
Police prosecutor Bernhard Berger said around 4pm, Grainger was at Breeze Bar with his friends when he was told he was too intoxicated and began abusing a staff member.
Police were called but Grainger and his friends had moved on to KC’s Bar and Grill. Grainger stood up as a group of female friends walked past KC’s, putting his hand out and saying “give me a high five you punk b ****** ”. He then ran behind them, standing on the back of one of the girls’ thongs. As she bent down to get it, he slapped her on the buttocks.
“It was completely out of line and his comments were unnecessary, rude and also offensive... (but) he meant no actual harm,” solicitor David Fitzgerald said.
Pleading guilty to both public nuisance and common assault, Grainger was fined $1500.
