Kinnear holds on to top spot
Defending champion’s great game
BOWLS: Saturday saw the Division 1 pennant side travel to South Suburban for the third round of pennants.
Shane Spann’s team of Nathan Dodds, Vince Olsen and Gavin Milne won their match by 13 shots to be the only winning team on the day. Huggie’s team lost by 12 and team Kinnear lost by 13.
On Sunday the division one side was at home against Northern Beaches with Spanny’s team winning by 10 shots, Huggie’s team losing by 13 and team Kinnear going down by 4.
The Division 4 team was at home to Moranbah on Saturday. Jim Janz’s team had a 23-all draw and Shane May’s team won 18-17 to give Proserpine the 1 shot win.
Sunday saw the Division 4 team travel to Mackay Bowls club. Janz’s side lost by 20 and Shaneo’s team lost by 11.
Division 1 will play Mackay Club on June 3.
The same team will play North Mackay on Sunday morning at 9am, being Nathan Dodds, Barry Saroglia, Gavin Milne, Shane Spann; Scott Kinnear, Shane Kinnear, Luke Kinnear, Grahame Kinnear; Michael Kinnear, Luchie Gardel, Scott Hamilton and Wayne Handley.
Division 4 (Chris Janz, Dale Haack, Barry Zillmann, Shane May; Jim Quod, Kevin Thorogood, John Bye, Jim Janzwill) play Northern Beaches at Proserpine at 1pm Saturday. Sunday will see Dan Robinson come in for Dale Haack to play against St Helens at 9am.
Three games of Men’s Championship Singles were played over the weekend. On Saturday morning Shane May gave the defending champion Grahame Kinnear a fright, leading 21 to 13 at one stage before Grahame picked up 13 shots in the last 5 ends to win 26 to 21. Sunday saw Shane Spann take on Grahame Kinnear. Grahame proved too strong winning 27 to 14. In the other match on Sunday, Luchie Gardel proved too strong for Peter Lawton, winning 25-9.
This Wednesday May 31, the final of the Ch/Ch Singles will be Heather Brown and Lois Read.
Last Wednesday the semi final of the ladies singles was played. Lois Read will play the final after a well contested game with Wendy Pomeroy finished26/18.
Proserpine ladies will travel to South Suburban on Thursday to play their first game of Division 1 Pennants.
There will be no competition games played until July 2 due to players in the Australian Open.
