A SHORT 100m drive while over the al­co­hol limit ended in a fine and driv­ing dis­qual­i­fi­ca­tion for a Gre­gory River man.

The court heard how on April 14 at 10.59pm, po­lice pulled over John Al­fred Lumby, 61, for a ran­dom breath test, when he de­liv­ered a read­ing of 0.070.

Lumby told of­fi­cers he had con­sumed about four cans of XXXX beer be­fore get­ting be­hind the wheel.

He said he was driv­ing his car from the Airlie Beach Bowls Club to Whit­sun­day PCYC af­ter a func­tion when he was caught.

Mag­is­trate Si­mon Young handed Lumby, who pleaded guilty, a $350 fine and a one-month dis­qual­i­fi­ca­tion.
