Airlie set to host Whit­sun­day 4s

BOWLS: Airlie Beach Bowls Club played mixed games last Wed­nes­day.

Bob Spees, Dom Sposato and Rus­sell Bramich de­feated Neil Moore, Rick Brunell and John Stark 26-12 while Herb Se­comb, Tony White­horn and Nik Fern­bach de­feated Rick Galea, Graeme Herd and Steve Tat­tam 35-25, and Jim Cairns, Tim Smith and Betty Ni­colle de­feated Lou Ro­gan, Lloyd Budd and David Stock 19-15.

Wed­nes­day also saw the Airlie Beach Ladies in Divi­sion 4 Pen­nants travel to St He­lens for their first round. How­ever they lost by five points over­all. On Thurs­day the Divi­sion 3 teams trav­elled to South Sub­ur­ban for their first game and won both games by eight points over­all.

Busi­ness House bowls re­turns this week.

Fri­day night bare­foot bowls saw a huge crowd of 80 peo­ple.

Satur­day the Divi­sion 2 Men’s Pen­nant Team played at home against South Sub­ur­ban and won all three rinks. They played again on Sun­day against Seaforth where they lost two games and won one. Divi­sion 6 Men’s Pen­nant teams trav­elled to Pioneer Val­ley on Satur­day and won all three games and Sun­day went to Sa­rina and lost all three games.

Sun­day So­cial bowls saw Lou Ro­gan, Wally Rein­tals and Henny Tat­tam as the win­ners of the day af­ter de­feat­ing Di­nah Rein­tals, Ash War­land and June Walsh. Other games were Ron Spence and Margo Stan­ley de­feated Martha Blair and Martin Klyne. Tim Smith and Betty Ni­colle de­feated Betty White­horn and Roy Blair.

Ladies will be play­ing Pen­nants on Tues­day and Thurs­day this week.

This week­end is also the Whit­sun­day Coast 4s Car­ni­val. There will be no so­cial bowls played.
