Hill climbs to the top in A-grade

GOLF: A nippy start and a bit of rain didn’t dampen the spirit of 21 Whit­sun­day Golf Club golfers who played a sin­gle Sta­ble­ford com­pe­ti­tion last Sun­day.

There was a field of 21 play­ers on the day.

New mem­ber John McCouat played an al­most fault­less game as run­ner-up in B-grade so now moves straight into A-grade. Elaine Philpott played her first game with the club in five years and has re­joined for the sea­son.

Anna Win­ter­bourn played to her newly re­duced hand­i­cap to win the ladies com­pe­ti­tion with an ex­cel­lent 32 points.

In Men’s A-grade the win­ner was Kym Hill on 39 points. The run­ner-up was Ron Jamieson on 34. The best gross score was Rod Wecker and the long­est drive was Kym Hill.

In Men’s B-grade Mark McDougall won on 44 points ahead of run­ner-up John McCouat on 40. Best gross score was Mick Ca­ton and the long­est drive went to Bren­don Me­harry.

Anna Win­ter­bourn was the ladies win­ner on 32 points. Run­ner-up was Linda Wardroper on 29. Best gross score was Beryl Miller and the long­est drive (1-39 h’cap) Anna Win­ter­bourn and (40+ h’cap) Joanne Moyni­han.

Mem­ber­ship re­newals are due from July 1. The Mag­netic Is­land trip will take place on Oc­to­ber 13-16.
