Win­ter can’t stop our Can­nons from fir­ing

SWIM­MING: De­spite the cooler weather, Can­non­vale Can­nons swim­mers con­tinue to keep up their swim fit­ness and im­prove their tech­nique.

Re­cently, a num­ber of club swim­mers were pre­sented with squad up­grade cer­tifi­cates.

In four weeks there will a swim car­ni­val in Townsville and in eight weeks the State Short Course Cham­pi­onships will be held in Bris­bane and some club swim­mers are train­ing hard to qual­ify and com­pete in th­ese events.

The Can­non­vale Can­nons Swim Club will also be host­ing its AGM on Satur­day, June 24 at 6pm at the Reef Gate­way Ho­tel and all mem­bers are wel­come. NUM­BERS were down last week for Air­lie Beach Bridge Club with a few play­ers away.

In their Mon­day af­ter­noon ses­sion, Linda Pri­day and Joy El­lis de­feated Gil­lian Blackie and Dewie Hughes by three rub­bers to two in a closely fought match.

In their Thurs­day evening round, Linda Pri­day and Neil Cawthorne won from Gil­lian Blackie and Dewie Hughes, with Tr­ish Rouse and Joy El­lis com­ing third.

Club mem­ber Cawthorne said they were look­ing for new play­ers.

“Vis­i­tors and res­i­dent so­cial play­ers are very wel­come to our Mon­day af­ter­noon from 12.30pm and Thurs­day evening ses­sions from 6.30pm at the Whit­sun­day Neigh­bour­hood Cen­tre,” he said.

The French flag was fly­ing and spe­cially pre­pared tennis balls got the “clay ef­fect” with play­ers com­pet­ing in three round robin dou­bles events.

Win­ners on Wed­nes­day in the Bronze squad were Jett Bleines and Kody Collins, Sil­ver squad Tate But­ler and Max Porter.

Tues­day and Thurs­day’s af­ter­noon and evening so­cial tennis was an­other hit as was Satur­day af­ter­noon. The club also holds Fri­day morn­ing’s Fit, fun tennis and Satur­day’s early bird ladies.

The club wishes to thank Reece, Isaac, Max, Jake, Si­enna and Jes­sica for giv­ing their time to men­tor and as­sist young peo­ple to im­prove their tennis as well as Mia who as­sists off the court on to have ev­ery­one ready for their les­son.
