Sea Eagles out on top
AFL: There is always a healthy rivalry when the Whitsunday Sea Eagles take on the North Mackay Saints.
And Saturday’s clash was no different in a tight and fierce contest the Sea Eagles took the spoils with a 10.14.74 to 4.7.35 win.
However, the lead shifted a number of crucial times throughout the game.
North Mackay led at quarter-time by two goals but Whitsunday came out swinging at half-time and flew away with the game.
Sea Eagles coach Luke Sommerville said it was a tough game.
“That was the second time we have beaten (North Mackay) this year and while both games were a challenge, we got a win,” he said. “We have been playing some pretty good footy and around halfway through our team still had a bit to go.”
The standout players in were Jared Campbell and Jacob Healey.
The Sea Eagles now sit alone on the top of the ladder.
They face No.2 side the Mackay City Hawks this weekend in Mackay.
The Whitsunday Ladies went down 7.6.48 to 1.2.8, while the under-17s suffered their first loss 9.11.65 to 8.7.55. The U14s lost 9.9.63 to 3.2.20 and the U12s soared to a 2.13.25 to 0.5.5 win.
