Air­lie’s fours cham­pi­ons take home their crowns

BOWLS: Last week was a big one for Air­lie Beach Bowls Club, with the fi­nal of the ladies fours played on Tues­day.

Hen­ney Tat­tam, Betty White­horn, Betty Nicolle and Margo Stan­ley were crowned the win­ners as they de­feated Tess Walker, Elaine Kip­pen, Julie Stark and Ladda Pur­die 19–13.

So­cial bowls num­bers were down but a close game was played with Elma Ast­bury and Jill Spencer de­feat­ing Di Dob­bins and Doreen Peadon 19–16.

Wed­nes­day af­ter­noon bowls was well at­tended, with the win­ners for the day be­ing Paul Dunsford, Graeme Herd and Steve Tat­tam de­feat­ing Rick Galea, Tim Smith and Rick Brunell 24–20.

Other games were Bob Spees, Dom Sposato, David Dias and Russell Bramich de­feat­ing Neil Moore, Nick Fern­bach, John Beach and Tony White­horn 22–16; Janet Ja­cometti, Lou Ro­gan and Louise Ma­hony de­feated Terry Clark, Di­nah Kosky and Ron Spence 19–18; and Colin Kosky and Herb Se­comb de­feated Jim Cairns and Michael Kosky 18–15.

Busi­ness house bowls was not played due to State of Ori­gin.

Fri­day night bare­foot bowls was slow due to the lo­cal Show Whit­sun­day be­ing held but a small, en­thu­si­as­tic crowd at­tended from the Is­land Gateway Car­a­van Park, along with owner Rod Neville, and a great time was had by all.

Satur­day morn­ing scroungers was again well at­tended and the win­ner for the day was Betty White­horn.

If play­ers would like to join this happy group of bowlers, they can come along any Satur­day morn­ing to start at 10am.

Sun­day so­cial bowls was down in num­bers due to the men play­ing away in their pen­nants games but the win­ners for the day were Terry Clarke, Bob Fen­ney and Ron Spence de­feat­ing Di­nah Kosky, Colin Kosky and Betty White­horn 17–12.

The fi­nal of the ladies’ triples was also played on Sun­day, with the win­ners be­ing Elaine Hadlow, Betty Nicolle and Margo Stan­ley de­feat­ing Di Dob­bins, Doreen Peadon and Lane Telford 26–14.

The men’s di­vi­sion two and di­vi­sion six were away play­ing pen­nants.

In a great run for the club both teams won their games, with di­vi­sion two beat­ing Pi­o­neer Val­ley by five points over­all.

Di­vi­sion six played North Mackay and won by 23 points over­all.

The club would like to say con­grat­u­la­tions to the play­ers.

Ladies in di­vi­sion four will play away in Mar­ian on Wed­nes­day, July 5.
