Nasty as­saults

WHIT­SUN­DAY po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing a se­ri­ous as­sault in Air­lie Beach. Po­lice said they were look­ing for three sus­pects in re­la­tion to the as­sault that hap­pened out­side McDon­ald’s on Shute Har­bour Rd about 3.20am on Satur­day. A 32-year-old Mackay man and a 55-year-old se­cu­rity guard, who tried to in­ter­vene, were hurt dur­ing the at­tack.

The se­cu­rity guard was knocked out as a re­sult of the as­sault, while the 32-year-old man re­ceived a bro­ken jaw and a cut to his eye. Both men were taken to Proser­pine Hos­pi­tal and were re­leased the fol­low­ing day. Po­lice have re­leased images of the sus­pects. On the same night, a 25-year-old Air­lie Beach man was al­legedly punched by a 35-year-old man in­side Paddy's Shenani­gans about 2.35am. Po­lice said the pair had an ar­gu­ment be­fore the older man punched the 25-year-old as he left the venue, leav­ing him ly­ing un­con­scious on the floor. The 35-year-old man was charged with caus­ing bodily harm.
