Stop pests before it’s too late
Look for mould as well
WITH 25 years of experience in pest control, when Ivan Lizarralde says you should check your home for mould and termites after Cyclone Debbie, you should listen.
“What’s happening after the cyclone is because the builders are now rebuilding or fixing up the damage... we’ve been getting a lot of calls because they’ve found a lot of termite tracks in the cavity walls which before no one had been detecting,” Mr Lizarralde said.
The owner of Blue Peace Pest Control said the other big problem he’d noticed since Debbie hit had been mould.
“It’s imperative and essential that all water leaks, filtration and ingress gets stopped,” he said.
“They are conducive to termite attacks, fungal activity and mould.
“If you find the cyclone has caused some water ingression to your house, get someone to stop it.
“If the water goes inside, it might get into the carpet, and the wet carpet timber strips may attract termites.
“Cyclone Debbie would have exposed a lot of the water ingress areas into houses.
“You need to stop it at all costs.”
Blue Peace offers a range of services with the three-person team handling everything from residential, to commercial, body corp and marine pest problems.
They can check for mould and moisture-test walls as well as literally sniff out termites. Inspector Blue is the company’s loyal termite sniffer dog who’ll sadly be retiring next year.
But never fear because the company has invested heavily in a technology called Termatrac.
The thermal and motion censor technology can scan walls for termites and moisture issues.
Covering all the basic pest control problems including possums in roofs, rats, people vacating a premises who need flea and tick sprays, cockroaches, spiders and ants. Blue Peace is also environmentally friendly.
“We focus on using environmentally friendly pesticides. Most chemicals are sensitive to the reef and environment,” the owner with a degree in marine biology said.
No job is too big or small for the company.
“My forte is inspections, I’ve doing it for 25 years and I specialise in getting rid of termites,” he said.
“I can help out people, insurance companies, builders, I can go there and sus it out and help fix it all up.”
