AF­TER their 50th an­niver­sary last year, the Queens­land Youth Orches­tra will be cel­e­brat­ing with the Proser­pine com­mu­nity in style.

The Jazz n Shi­raz event at the RSL is prom­ises to be a mas­sive night of mu­sic with the orches­tra fea­tur­ing a 17-piece big jazz band and a vo­cal­ist.

Due to Proser­pine En­ter­tain­ment Cen­tre still be­ing out of ac­tion, the RSL func­tion room will host the spe­cial night with full bar ser­vices avail­able on the night.

Held in cabaret style, or­gan­is­ers are rec­om­mend­ing guests book their ta­bles to avoid miss­ing out.

The QYO Big Band is based in Bris­bane and reg­u­larly per­forms on tour through re­gional Queens­land and through­out Aus­tralia.

Con­duc­tor Rafael Karlen pro­grams ad­vanced big band charts, both in­stru­men­tal and with a vo­cal­ist, and he is one of Aus­tralia’s lead­ing band di­rec­tors and com­posers.

The show is called Swing­ing on a Star, which is named af­ter a Bing Crosby song that is sung in the show, along with a mix of in­di­vid­ual songs, duets and in­stru­men­tals.

Since its es­tab­lish­ment 50 years ago, the band has per­formed at the Dar­ling Har­bour Jazz Fes­ti­val in Syd­ney, the Win­ton Out­back Fes­ti­val, Bris­bane’s River Fes­ti­val, the Noosa Jazz Fes­ti­val and the Red­land Spring Fes­ti­val.

QYO Big Band has also per­ofrmed with multi-award win­ning coun­try star Troy Cas­sar-Da­ley over the past two years.

It prom­ises to be a spe­cial night in Proser­pine.
