Proser­pine lead­ing Divi­sion 1 Pen­nants

BOWLS: Rounds 8 and 9 of Pen­nants were played by Proser­pine Bowls Club over the week­end.

The Divi­sion 1 side was at home to Souths Subur­ban on Satur­day. Shane Spann’s team won 29-16, Wayne Han­d­ley’s team won 25-18 and team Kin­n­ear lost 28-15 to give an over­all score of 69-62 to Proser­pine.

Round 9 on Sun­day was played away against North­ern Beaches.Wayne Han­d­ley’s team won 29-7, team Kin­n­ear won 31-19 and Shane Spann’s team lost 23-16 to give an over­all score of 76-49. The club is now 1.5 in front with one round left.

The Divi­sion 4 side trav­elled to Mo­ran­bah on Satur­day. Jim Janz’s team came from 19-9 down to win their match 22-19. Shane May’s team played well but went down 24-9. This gave Proser­pine one match point.

Sun­day’s round 9 match was at home to Mackay. Jim Janz’s team nar­rowly went down 23-21 and Barry Zill­mann’s team lost 27-10.

In the semi-fi­nal of the Cham­pi­onship Sin­gles on Satur­day, Luchie Gardel de­feated last year’s cham­pion Gra­ham Kin­n­ear 25-17 in an epic match.

On Sun­day af­ter­noon two games of cham­pi­onships pairs were played. Nathan Dodds and Scott Hamil­ton proved too strong against Jonathon Bye and Wayne Han­d­ley in win­ning 23-12. Michael Kin­n­ear and Gra­ham Kin­n­ear beat Dan Robin­son and Shane May win­ning 16-14.

The Proser­pine Ladies Pen­nants side de­feated Sa­rina on Wed­nes­day and then lost to Souths Subur­ban.
