Norths’ 28-minute match
Brahmans smash Devils in first-half blitz
RUGBY LEAGUE: The Norths Devils could only manage 28 minutes against the Brahmans in Mackay before raising the white flag.
Starting the A Grade clash with only 11 players, Norths were always going to struggle against a team surging toward a premiership berth.
Team manager of the Brahmans, Bryce Fraser, said before the end of the second half management called the game off and the players left the field.
“I have seen it happen once before and I am pretty sure it was against Norths as well,” he said. “They just didn’t have enough players.”
Though not challenged at Saturday night Fraser said the team did take some positives from the game.
Some young Under-19s players got an A Grade run including Brody Elson, who made his debut.
“He had a good 15 minutes on the field before they called the game off,” he said.
“He certainly handled the step up and didn’t shrug the step up to the bigger boys and the much quicker game.”
Matt Kennedy and Blake Fall also stepped up from the U19s.
The Reserve Grade Brahmans also came away with a convincing victory over the Norths Devils.
At half-time the score was 26-4 and by full-time the scoreboard read 40-10.
“Norths Reserve Grade are not a team to write off. They have had some big wins in the last few weeks against some good teams,” Fraser said.
The Brahmans, currently sitting third on the Mackay ladder, have a big game next week against second placed side Wests. Last time the two teams met Wests came away with the win at their home ground.
Fraser said the A Grade side will have that defeat in their minds when they run out at Les Stagg next Saturday night.
“We don't want to lose to them twice in a season. They are coming to our home turf and we want to show them (our best game) and make amends for the loss.
“It will be the strongest side we have had all year. Next week all three grades will be at full strength,” Fraser said.
WHAT A START: Whitsunday Brahman Brody Elson makes his debut in the A-grade match against Norths on Saturday.
