New Pennants champs
BOWLS: The Division 6 Airlie Beach Bowls Club men convincingly won against Pioneer Valley on Saturday.
Steve Tattam, Graeme Herd, Paul Durnsford and Peter Barrett won 23-9. Rodney Howard, Andrew Butler, Rick Brunell and Rick Galea won 30-17. The win put the team in top position on the premiership ladder and they will be promoted into Division 5 next season.
Division 2 men played at South Suburban and won by a narrow margin, 54-52. They scored four match points taking them to second on the ladder.
Division 4 ladies lost to Mackay on Wednesday and finished third.
Division 3 ladies finished the season top of the ladder with eight match points closely followed by Marian team with six match points and they will be promoted to Division 2 next season.
The men’s fours club competitions were played on Sunday. Rod Howard, Andrew Butler, Peter Barrett and Paul Osborne defeated Tony Whitehorn, David Dias, Rick Galea and Neil Moore 23-16. Nathan Harriott, Armando Isgrove, John Beard and Bob McMahon defeated Steve Tattam, Nik Fernbach, Graham Herd and Wally Reintals 24-8. The grand final was played by Rod Howard and his team Andrew Butler, Peter Barrett and Paul Osborne against Andy Bell, Man Isgrove, Nathan Harriott and Bob McMahon. The game finished under lights with each team equal on 22 shots on the 21st end. On the tie breaker end the team skipped by Andy Bell won 23-22.
Tuesday social day featured Elaine Hadlow and Barbara Lequesne defeating Bill Noble and Ollie Austin 16-8. Betty Nicolle and Jenny Ryder beat Ladda Purdie and Lyn Boxer 16-8. Betty Whitehorn and Mae Secomb defeated Leon Wilson and Margaret Heeney 15-9. Jill Spencer and Rhonda Lloyd beat Di Dobbins and Louise Mahony 14-10.
Wednesday Social bowls big winners were Bob Spees, Art Moore and Herb Secomb, defeating June Walsh, Jim Cairns and Ash Warland 29-6.
Business House Bowls welcomed a new team from Coles. Business House Bowls is on Wednesday.
Friday Night Bare Foot Bowls had 21 players.
Saturday Scroungers was won by Bruce Moore against Ladda Purdie and Dinah Reintals.
Sunday’s socials had 20 players with Betty Nicoll, Pam Moulang and Sandra Argo, winning the day 17-7.
